Fund Raising

I would like to propose that we develop a different fund raiser other than the rest stop. I haven't done my shift yet, but in talking with Kevin it would appear that this year's "take" is in line with prior years rather than the Olympics bump that we were hoping for. Actually those results reflect the general lack of the desired increase in revenues that the business community is seeing.

Even if the donations had been much higher, this fund raiser really stretches our active membership in terms of staffing the event.

I agree wholeheartedly. I

I agree wholeheartedly.
I personally will not do the rest stop function again should it be scheduled. I am disappointed with the amount of funds that have been brought in by this function. Not to mention I am also disappointed that it seems to be the same people that are always doing this function. It was brought up that we had a huge turn out for the Christmas party but struggled to get all the slots filled for the rest stop. This is sad.

We did a bit of brain storming yesterday during our sentence at the rest stop. The idea of heading up to Walker when they have the area open for wood cutting and cut a few cords of wood and either sell them or raffle them off. If we had even 5-6 people show up for a day to cut wood we could easily cut 3 cord in a day. And at $225.00 a cord, it would be much more profitable.

Or have a raffle at the swap meet for something.

Also, maybe we should impose a 10-15% fee on all items sold at the swap meet.

We could contact other successful clubs and see what they do for funding outside of dues.

Jim, thanks for bringing this

Jim, thanks for bringing this up....This will be the last rest stop volunteer function we do---There are definitely other ways of bringing in donations---I have been to Whidbey4x4's site and have signed up on their forum---seems they have something goin pretty good; On the bottom of every page they have a link to have folks donate to their org....good Idea! I will be asking them at some point how that idea has worked out for them...
Len, As far as Swap meet goes, there has always been enough donations at the end of the meet to offset the booth costs, and put a little into the kitty...The raffle, which is held at the Mar club meeting, has always produced funds---last yr was a little light ($60 total, but that did cover over 1/2 the booth costs...) This year we'll be doing it again...
The ideas I've heard are all good ones to help generate revenue--and will be touched on in Mar's meeting, so bring your ideas!!! We'll go into these more in depth in April's meeting!!!

Fund Raising

I finished with $15.65 in the till at the end of my shift. That works out to about $3.13 per hour for the hours I was there. Granted, I left at midnight rather than serving out my term until 2 AM, but I doubt that I would have made $20 if I had stayed until 6 AM. One of the real problems with this particular fund raising approach is that we don't have the option of only doing the most productive hours. Even on our more productive shifts, if we had divided the income by the person-hours, the result would have been really low, not even including the cost of materials.

I suspect that if the option had been there that I would have thrown in a $20 and gone to bed. Luckily, it wasn't really cold.

Yup, the mention of 'just

Yup, the mention of 'just throwing in $xxx was brought up more than once...Thanks again for helpin' out; And I will say again---and this seems unanimous; No More Rest Stop Volunteering!!! :)
